Innovating Drug Development using Machine Learning

Yenin Kim, PhD
UT Houston

AbstractDrug Development for complex diseases has been costly and challenging. Drug development via advanced machine learning approaches might change the game by reducing the exponentially large search space of chemicals and targets to a smaller pool of promising candidates. In this talk, we will discuss how machine learning innovates the drug development process with examples from Dr. Kim’s recent studies. Our focus is on translational research for identifying, defining, and solving real-world challenges in drug development. We will briefly discuss various applications from molecule property prediction, drug repurposing, to clinical regimen optimization, with methodologies including knowledge graph representation, transfer learning, temporal clustering, reinforcement learning, and counterfactual inference. We will conclude the talk with things to consider when doing translational research for drug development using machine learning. Click here to join via Zoom.
