Upstate researcher receives grant to continue study of RNA polymerase I transcription
Congratulations to Biochemistry & Molecular Biology professor Bruce Knutson, PhD on his $90k grant from the National Institute of General Medical sciences to continue his study of RNA polymerase I (Pol I) transcription.
"Its upregulation in human cells is a hallmark of cancer while its downregulation is a hallmark of several developmental disorders," says Knutson. "The goals of our work is provide a conceptual framework for understanding the link between Pol I and human disease and possibly illuminate new avenues for therapeutic interventions."
His office also received a NIGMS Post-Bac diversity supplement for this project as well. It will support PREP-Up student Kairo Baylor's continued work on this project as she heads into her second year in the program.
